Fire Blanket and Welding blanket are made with high temperature fire proof fabrics such as Fibreglass, silicone coated Fibreglass, ceramic or high silica fabrics. A fire blanket can be interchangeably used as a fire extinguishing blanket or as a fire blanket for welding spark protection. Welding blanket is used only for welding spark protection.
A fire blanket used for the purpose of fire extinguishing is white in colour and is generally made with 0.4 mm thickness Fibreglass fabric. Used for extinguishing small fires at home or office.
The regular sizes include 2 m x 1 m, 2 m x 2 m, 1.8 m x 1.2 m, 1.8 m x 1.8 m. Fire extinguishing blankets are supplied in red pouches with provision for wall hangings. These blankets are used as shown in the video below.
A fire blanket for welding or Welding blanket is used when a high temperature flame is applied to a metal resulting in it's melting and emitting sparks. These sparks are of extreme high temperature and can result in fire or damage to equipment unless some high temperature protective cloth is used to collect these welding sparks as shown in the image below/
Fire blankets for welding are made with the following fabrics:
1. Fiberglass Fabric or Silicone Coated Fibreglass Fabric of 0.8-1.0 mm thickness used for light to medium duty welding where the distance between the sparks and the fire blanket is greater than 1.5 metre.
2. Heavy duty Vermiculite Coated Ceramic fabric of 3.0 mm to 3.2 mm thickness having a temperature resistance upto 1260 degree Celsius and is used for capturing welding sparks from close proximity.
3. High Temperature Vermiculite Coated High Silica fabric 0f 0.7 mm or 1.2 mm thickness used as welding wraps for continuous temperature resistance upto 1000 degrees and short time upto 1600 degree Celsius.
The fire blankets for welding are certified to IS 11871, ISO 6940, BS EN 45545, JIS A1323, EN ISO 9185 to Molten metal splash. These fire blankets can be customized in size and shape as per customer requirement.
